Reconciliation Week: Sculpture Launch

Free - RSVP essential

Thursday 3-5pm

28 May

As part of our Reconciliation Week events, Trawlwoolway multidisciplinary artist Edwina Green’s First Nations Playable Public Art Sculpture, babanh-u laangi-yuyuk-a (Mother of Pearl), will be permanently relocated to the Maribyrnong River Trail in Aberfeldie/Moonee Ponds on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country and officially unveiled on Thursday, 28 May from 3pm–5pm.

In 2025, Incinerator Gallery, Moonee Valley City Council, and Agency awarded Edwina Green as the recipient of the First Nations Playable Public Art Sculpture Commission.

This major public art commission invited proposals from artists and collectives responding to themes of childhood, play, togetherness, and renewal, while honouring the cultural and environmental significance of the Maribyrnong River to Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung First Peoples for over 40,000 years.

Follow on from the event with a DJ set by Nicholas Currie (Mulunjali and Kuku Yalanji) amplifying the spaces of Incinerator Gallery from 6pm to 8pm as part of the gallery’s Thursday Late series.

RSVP to publicart@mvcc.vic.gov.au by 13 May for catering and access needs purposes.

This project is funded by Victoria State Government's Emergency Recovery Hubs Grant and Moonee Valley City Council.
