Foundations of Observational Life Drawing
Saturday, 8 August – 12.30pm to 3.30pm
Join contemporary visual artist Badra Aji for an immersive three-hour life drawing workshop in Naarm, focusing on the core principles of observational drawing. Working from a clothed model, this session offers a practical, step-by-step approach to translating the human form onto paper.
Through a series of structured exercises, participants will develop fundamental skills in contour drawing, negative space observation, and the sighting method for accurate proportions. The workshop culminates in sustained, long-form poses, allowing you to synthesise these techniques to capture form, light, and line weight.
Open to all skill levels—from absolute beginners looking for a solid introduction to practising artists wanting to sharpen their observational skills.
Materials are included. Tea and coffee provided. Participant’s must be over 18 years of age.
Please read our Public Programs – Terms and Conditions before purchasing your ticket.
Presenter bio
Badra Aji works primarily with drawing and video. He uses his practice to directly contemplate his life experiences, creating work which becomes the tangible artefact of this process. Drawing from his own experience of immigrating to Australia, Badra purposefully positions the viewer as an outsider by creating a disjuncture between imagery and language. Poetic and rich in personal symbolism, his work is instilled with a political undertone.
