Welcome to Social Justice Art for Teens online – where the Incinerator Gallery comes to you.

Our artist educator Francine Sculli invites you to join along with these creative activities from the comfort of your own home. Please take a photo of your artworks, share your favourite social justice artist and artworks or ask your questions.

Join Incinerator Social Justice Art for Teens group on Facebook for inspiration and get connected with other young artists wanting to express their views. Use your art to raise awareness and make a difference.

Use the hashtag #IncineratorGallery so everyone can share and support each other, just as we do during the program at Incinerator Gallery.

Hope

This month join Social Justice Art for Teens facilitator, Francine Sculli, as she shares with you some artists inspiring and giving hope to communities with their art during the pandemic, and encourages you to use your art powers to do the same in yours.

Francine shares:

At this very moment in time you will be tuning into this video during a turbulent time in the world where there is so much uncertainty, and possibly even anxiety about the world we are living in.

If you are tuning in from Melbourne, we have just entered strict new lockdown measures to contain the coronavirus pandemic in our city. This feels heavy for all of us, as we face another long stint of being isolated, people losing jobs, families doing it tough, people’s mental health possibly on the brink and a long recovery of life ahead.

They say that we need to stay apart to stay together, and even that feels like a harder thing to hear the second time around. But it is true. We do need to find ways to rally around one another from a distance. Ways to find hope and light in these times. Ways to lift each other up.

Art has that power.

A planning sheet is designed as a supporting resource to help you think about your message, what you want people to think or feel. To consider what elements you will need to include in your art to communicate your message. What your art will look like and where you will place you art (safely) for the community to engage with it.
