Cultivating Hope
Saturday 18 Apr
11am-1pm
Tickets $25

Join artist Norton Fredericks for a workshop rooted in cultivating hope.
We will begin with an artist talk of their solo exhibition we/us/theirs/all followed by a guided meditation within the space. We will then create a personal power motif or ‘sigil’ created bespoke to each participant’s hopes for their future, drawn on seeded paper and tied together using handmade plant fibre cordage.
Participants will be invited to bury these in their gardens after the workshop to grow Australian native flowers and watch their intentions grow. All materials provided.
About the Artist
Norton Fredericks (they/he/Murri, b. 1990 in Tulmur, Ipswich) is an early career interdisciplinary visual artist, workshop facilitator and artisan who currently lives and works on Kombumerri Country, Gold Coast. Norton’s practice-based research is driven by hypercuriousity, often sitting at the intersection between art and science examining the external forces that impact on both the human experience and the environment around us. Their work explores themes of environmental threats and queer ecologies. They create using predominantly historical pre-industrial techniques across fibre, textiles, metals, pottery and photography mediums while drawing from their knowledge of chemistry, environmental sustainability and ancient crafts. Norton imbues their work with geographical memories and examines how environmental variables respond with materials.
