Views and Vistas of the Valley brings together selected works that explore three intertwined genres: architecture and design; natural and civic landscape; and people and still-life. Together, these genres offer multiple vantage points on what it means to live in, look at, and belong to this valley landscape.

Landscape works extend this conversation from the built and domestic environments into natural and municipal space: from depictions of waterways or parks that are sites of recreation and memory, to interpretations of ecological shifts over time.

These watercolour scenes are painted by our workshop tutor; artist Xiang Li. This Friday, Incinerator Gallery invites you to take inspiration from the landscapes of Moonee Valley in a relaxed watercolour workshop. Create your own landscape or urban scene inspired by the Maribyrnong River, local parks, streetscapes and other places that make our area unique.

No experience is needed—just bring a curious, creative mindset.

With easy-to-follow, step-by-step guidance, you'll learn essential watercolour techniques, including water control, creating texture for skies and foliage, and the basics of colour mixing. Inspired by the local landscape rather than a template, you'll create a finished artwork to take home.

In this session, guest presenter; historian Dr Liz Rushen will discuss the work of Robert Hoddle, the colonial surveyor and artist whose watercolour works from 1839 feature in our upcoming 'Views and Vistas of the Valley' exhibition and who designed Melbourne's famous central city grid, known as the Hoddle Grid.

Thank you to everyone who joined us at Ascot Vale Library last weekend to celebrate the launch of Circulation, a stunning new collection of public artworks by artist Olivia Chin.

The collection brings together a work from Olivia's exhibition 'Body Field', originally presented at Incinerator Gallery in early 2024, alongside three new works and a series of community-created cyanotypes developed in collaboration with local participants.

Installed on the library's second level, Circulation reflects a collaboration between more than 20 community members, Moonee Valley Libraries, and the Incinerator Gallery.
