An exciting addition to The Playground Project Melbourne is The Ringtales Playground designed by Melbourne-based BoardGrove Architects ➰➰➰

An outdoor play installation that children can explore, the Ringtales Playground is inspired by the sculpture playground, an architype of The Playground Project. This piece also pays tribute to the Maribyrnong River as well as the Incinerator Gallery’s architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin.

The Lozziwurm by Yvan Passalotti, is a captivating example of contemporary playground design that merges playful forms with interactive, sculptural elements 🟠🔺🟨

Resembling a winding worm or serpent, the structure encourages children to climb, slide, and explore its curving surfaces.

The Brutalist Playground by Australian artist Simon Terrill & Turner Prize winners, Assemble UK, was first commissioned by the Royal Institute of British Architects @riba in 2015.

The Brutalist Playground cladded in reconstituted foam is an installation blending playground, sculpture and architecture, exploring the abstract concrete playgrounds built in post-war housing estates during the mid-20th century.

Originally inspired by the UK social housing estates, including Park Hill Sheffield, the Melbourne iteration has been expanded to incorporate influences from Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, designers of Incinerator Gallery and Canberra, Australia’s capital.

Part of the Playground Project Melbourne, Edwina Green’s new playable sculpture will be temporarily installed from September 2025 at Incinerator Gallery. Next year it will relocate permanently along the Maribyrnong River. The sculpture will be a site of play and learning.
