Installation is now complete at Ascot Vale library for multi-disciplinary artist Olivia Chin’s new public artworks. The works are showcased in the library’s second level and represent a collaboration between more than 20 community members, Moonee Valley Libraries, and Incinerator Gallery.

Squash like you’ve never seen it before!

Built for a sport once among the nation’s most loved games, the walls of the Essendon courts will be taken over by this breath-taking musical battle.

Dreamed up by Speak Percussion, Squashed is a unique, site-specific contemporary music performance.

Join Kaylie Melville (vibraphone), Marshall McGuire (harp), Maria Moles (drum kit) and Rohan Dasika (bass) - as they serve and volley, drive and boast, flam and strike, bow and pluck; reimagining a forgotten sport into a tournament for percussion and strings.

This event is part of Moonee Valley Council's Art in Surprising Places program. Link in bio for details.

Experimenting with texture will be the focus in June's Gallery Sketchers session, happening this week. We will experiment with different ways to draw texture by incorporating various techniques in mark making, using a variety of pencils and tools.

The exhibitions currently on show at Incinerator Gallery are filled with textural inspiration from fabrics to metalwork, through to ceramics and photographs rich with natural textural elements.

All materials are provided but feel free to bring your own pencils too.

Mobile-making fun at last month's Arty Tales ✨

Last Friday’s Arty Tales saw our creative young participants and their carers make colourful, textural mobiles. Guided by our Barking Spider Creative educator, Laura, the children were led through a physical treasure hunt inside the room, exploring different textures, before starting on their bright, colourful artworks. Materials used were leaves, feathers, bubble wrap, shells and more.

‘we/us/theirs/all’ asks how we interact with our own dreams and hopes—how we contain and release them. How do we manifest collective change, and how do we enact it at a personal level?

We are living through a liminal timeline between mass extinction and the collapse of empires. Historically, humans have endured such collapses before—we have remnants of past civilisations as evidence. But what will remain after our timeline? What do we want to rebuild after collapse, and how do we hold hope for future generations?

‘we/us/theirs/all’ is dedicated to the indomitable human spirit.

Angus Scott @gussi.i is a lens-based artist, curator, and producer. His practice explores how more-than-human perspectives can open up different ways of thinking about the human condition.

Working across moving image, photography, writing, and publication, he often engages with themes of life cycles, colonial inheritance, and ecological entanglement. His work has been recognised through award programs and exhibitions both internationally and in Australia.

His photographic installation ‘Tending the Invasion’ in Boadle Hall explores how ecological tensions are entangled with colonial legacies.

As part of our Reconciliation Week events, Trawlwoolway multidisciplinary artist @edwinagreen’s First Nations Playable Public Art Sculpture will be launched at its permanent location along the Maribyrnong River Trail in Aberfeldie/Moonee Ponds on Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Country on Thursday, 28 May from 3pm–5pm.

This major public art commission invited proposals from artists and collectives responding to themes of childhood, play, togetherness, and renewal, while honouring the cultural and environmental significance of the Maribyrnong River to Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung First Peoples for over 40,000 years.
