Fireworks 2023 exhibition application form

For VCE students who live, work or study in Moonee Valley.

Please read all information in Terms and Conditions before applying for Fireworks.

Students may submit up to two applications. One per category ART and DESIGN. 

  • Students who live, work or study in Moonee Valley and currently in Years 11 or 12 are eligible to apply for Fireworks. Year 10 students are not eligible to apply. 
  • Immediate family (siblings or children) of Moonee Valley City Council employees and Councillors are ineligible to apply. 

Conceptual Excellence: Demonstrates creative originality and a clear conceptual message.

· The work demonstrates a unique and innovative approach, showcasing creativity and originality in its concept while also communicating a compelling and coherent message that engages viewers.

Technical Proficiency: Exhibits mastery of the chosen medium with attention to detail.

· The work exhibits a high level of technical skill and craftsmanship relevant to its chosen medium (e.g., painting, sculpture, digital art) while demonstrating precision and attention to detail in its execution.

Engagement and Impact: Evokes emotions, thoughts, and leaves a lasting impact on viewers.

· The work evokes emotions, thoughts, or responses from the audience, and it has the potential to captivate and engage a diverse audience, fostering a sense of connection or conversation.

Durability and Display: Work is structurally sound and safe for display.

· The work is structurally sound, ensuring it can withstand the full duration of the Fireworks exhibition without damage, and it poses no safety concerns.

Artistic Growth Potential: Indicates potential for continued artistic development and innovation.

· The work shows promise for future artistic development, indicating the creator’s potential for continued growth and innovation.

Entries open Sunday, 1 October 2023.
Entries close Tuesday, 31 October 2023.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome of applications at the beginning of November 2023.

Shortlisted finalists will be sent an Exhibition Participation and Photo Consent Form which must be completed and brought in with the artwork. 

Shortlisted students are responsible for the delivery and collection of their artworks at the following times:

  • Delivered to the Gallery between 11am and 4pm on 11 to 19 November 2023 (not on Monday, 13 November). 
  • Collected from the Gallery between 11am and 4pm on 6 February to 18 February 2024 (not on Monday, 12 February).
  • Any works not collected by this date will be disposed of at the discretion of the Gallery.
  • Contact the Gallery to make any alternate arrangements outside of these times. 

Works must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition. 

Finalists must be available to attend the opening exhibition opening and awards presentation at 6pm Friday, 1 December 2023. 

The Fireworks exhibition at Incinerator Gallery will be open to the public between 11am to 4pm from Friday, 1 December 2023 to Sunday, 21 January 2024.

Please note the Gallery will be closed for Christmas and New Year period from Friday, 22 December 2023. reopening on Tuesday, 2 January 2024.

Images submitted will be used for selection, exhibition planning and promotional purposes. 

Photographs must be clear and depict artwork well, with no background clutter. 

Provide up to 2 high resolution images (images must be 1600 pixels wide and 300DPI; JPEGs preferred) for each artwork you are submitting.

At least one of these images must show the entire artwork, so we have a complete understanding of what your overall work looks like. 

  • Shortlisted students will be asked to complete an Exhibition Participation and Photo Consent Form to participate in the Fireworks exhibition.
  • Shortlisted students may be invited to speak with the media about their work. 
  • Applicants under the age of 18 (on 1 December 2023) must seek permission from their parent or guardian.

Please let us know if you also intend submitting your artwork for VCE Season of Excellence

Works must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition and cannot be removed. 

Fireworks is free to enter. 

Late applications will not be accepted. 

Students may submit up to two applications one ART and one DESIGN.

Students are responsible for: 

  • the delivery and collection of their works to and from Incinerator Gallery. 
  • works to be ready for display, including any framing requirements or D rings required, unless works can be pinned directly to walls. 

Works must remain on display for the duration of the exhibition and cannot be removed.
