Petite Joy: Florence Wang

21 February 2023 - 30 June 2023

Curator:

Artist(s): Florence Wang

Location: Crown Street Stables

This exhibition by artist Florence Wang uses painting as a means of celebrating and appreciating the ‘small things in life’. Inspired by the recent COVID-19 pandemic and its effects on all aspects of domestic life during a period of isolation, the artworks in the exhibition focus on nostalgic and joyful representations of home. The small-sized paintings feature still-life imagery displayed together to depict small, yet precious objects familiar to the viewer. The artworks seek to celebrate the ways in which these small things continue to inspire a sense of connection, belonging, and joy in the life of both artist and viewer.

Florence Wang is a visual artist based in Melbourne. She received her PhD degree from University of Sydney across computer science and visual art. Her art practice focuses on the narrative aspects of visual medium and using subject matter for storytelling.  Presently, she is a resident artist at Blender Studios. She takes an interest in portraiture, still life, and urban landscape paintings in traditional mediums.
