Intersection: Susan Jane Lowe

9 February 2022 - 30 June 2022

Curator:

Artist(s): Susan Jane Lowe

Location: Niddrie Library

Intersection by artist Susan Jane Lowe explores the intersection of image and surface in artworks through new and unexpected ways.

Susan’s current practice can be framed as a direct response to the different textures, surfaces, and materials found in the printmaking process. Her encounters with ‘chance’ and ‘accident’ in the studio are paramount, informing her creative process. In addition to colour, with its immediacy and ability to imbue emotional content within her works.

Through a combination of painting and printmaking during COVID lockdowns, Susan has metaphorically journeyed back and forth through past and momentary experiences. Intersection presents the viewer with an abstract, yet tangible expression of the artist’s own thoughts, meanders, and focus, both outdoors and in the studio.

Susan Jane Lowe is a visual artist, printmaker, and former educator with a background in teaching, heritage consultation, and costume design. She has exhibited widely in group and solo exhibitions, most recently as a finalist in the Firestation Print Studio National Monoprint Award in 2021.
