Fireworks 2024

Welcome to Fireworks 2024, a compelling exhibition spotlighting the achievements of Years 11 and 12 art and design students from Moonee Valley. In its twelfth year, Fireworks is more than an exhibition, it is a dynamic reflection of our students' perspectives on the multifaceted tapestry of life.

Across various media including drawing, painting, fashion and sculpture, the exhibition showcases the achievements of their creative and critical thinking throughout the school year.

The formal exhibition opening and awards presentation was held at 6pm on Friday, 6 December 2024.

  • Mayoral Award for Excellence in Art $200
  • Mayoral Award for Excellence in Design $200

Visitors to the exhibition can also vote for their favourite work through:

  • People's Choice Award $200

Voting for the Fireworks People's Choice Award is open between Friday, 6 December 2024 and Sunday, 19 January 2025. Visit the gallery during opening hours to cast your vote. The People's Choice Award winner will be announced in the week following the exhibition's close.

Voting for the Fireworks People's Choice Award is open between Friday, 6 December 2024 and Sunday, 19 January 2025. Visit the gallery during opening hours to cast your vote. The People's Choice Award winner will be announced in the following week.  

Judges for this year's Fireworks exhibition: 

Fiona Cabassi: Fiona is an artist and visual arts educator, and also the facilitator of the popular Gallery Sketchers program here at the gallery. For the past decade, Fiona has presented workshops for children and adults at Heide Museum of Modern Art, McClelland Sculpture Park and Art Gallery and La Trobe University Gallery. Fiona’s approach aims to enable people to access their inner creativity through enjoyable processes that leads them to surprising and delightful outcomes. 

Xiang Li: Xiang is an award-winning exhibition artist and registered art therapist. She is interested in exploring ways that art can be used to connect with our spiritual needs. She was awarded the Local Emerging Artist Prize in the 2021 Wyndham Art Prize and was a finalist for the SBS Portrait Prize and Landscape Prize 2021.
