Social Justice Art for Teens – February 2021
Where the Incinerator Gallery comes to you
Our artist educator Francine Sculli invites you to join along with these creative activities from the comfort of your own home. Please take a photo of your artworks, share your favourite social justice artist and artworks or ask your questions.
Join Incinerator Social Justice Art for Teens group on Facebook for inspiration and get connected with other young artists wanting to express their views. Use your art to raise awareness and make a difference.
Use the hashtag #IncineratorGallery so everyone can share and support each other, just as we do during the program at Incinerator Gallery.
Studio habits of mind: Envision
In this month’s program Francine will introduce the Studio Habits of Mind and their importance for artists. After which Francine will focus on one of the habits – Envision – connecting it to our roles as social justice artists.
Through our explorations of ‘envisioning’, participants will explore personal responses to ‘where do artists get their ideas?’. Consider different social justice issues that are most important and how participants can unpack them to develop ideas for art works. Join in the creative exercises to build a well of ideas to draw from for your social justice art practice.
You will need:
- visual diary
- graphite pencils
- colouring materials (for example, pencils, watercolours or food dyes)
- fineliners
- eraser
- glue stick
- scissors
